Trump tried to delete Mar-a-Lago CCTV footage
New allegations against former US President Donald Trump were made on Thursday. The complaint alleges that Trump ordered staff to delete video footage from CCTV cameras at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida. Thus he tried to disrupt the investigation of the state secret documents kept there.
The trial of the case against Trump, the potential presidential candidate of the Republican Party in the next election, will begin in May of next year on the charge of mismanagement of state secret documents. The next presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November next year.
The new charges came on a day when Trump's lawyers met with Justice Department officials amid fears he could be charged with trying to sway the 2020 election.
The former US president was indicted last month for possessing state secrets. According to the country's government rules, US presidents are required to submit all their documents and e-mails to the National Archives, a central government agency. However, following his departure from office in January 2021, Trump transferred numerous classified documents to his residence in Florida. Additionally, it contained secret US defense and nuclear information.
The complaint alleges that Trump left those documents carelessly at his Mar-a-Lago home. Those documents contained records from the Pentagon, the CIA and the National Security Agency. When the documents were retrieved, the government officials were prevented.
Yesterday's indictment also accused Trump's personal assistant Valtine "Walt" Nauta and property manager Carlos de Oliveira of trying to delete security camera footage.
The new indictment also previously accused Trump of "deliberately withholding national defense information"; Obstruction of justice, false statements and other charges have been brought. However, last month, Trump denied these allegations brought against him.
The new indictment also describes a conversation between the two. The two are De Oliveira and a fourth person. However, his identity has not been revealed. There, Oliveira is said to be telling someone that the 'boss' wants whatever is on the server to be deleted.
In 2021, the indictment cited an audio recording of Trump discussing the defense documents with some people at a New Jersey golf club. There he was heard saying, 'As a president I could have published them. But I can't now, you know. But they are still secret.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox News Digital yesterday, Trump described the new allegations against him as ridiculous.
Ahead of the election, Trump accused his potential election rival Joe Biden and the Justice Department of "abusing the law". He said, it involves interference in the election from the highest level.
