(ReportRealm Desk)- Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a warning to Poland, cautioning that any aggression directed towards its close ally Belarus will be regarded as an attack on Russia itself. Putin accused Poland of pursuing territorial expansion within the framework of the US-led coalition. He made these remarks during a meeting of the Russian Security Council, as reported by Reuters via bdnews.

Belarus is in a union state with Russia, enabling them to collaborate on security matters despite being distinct entities. In response to the arrival of Russian mercenary force Wagner in Belarus, Poland's security committee decided to evacuate some military units to eastern Poland. This action prompted Putin's accusation of territorial expansionism against Poland. However, Poland denies any intentions of occupying any part of Belarus.

In an exchange of historical references, Russian President Putin reminded Poles that the western part of Poland was once a territorial gift from former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki responded on Twitter, denouncing Stalin as a war criminal responsible for killing thousands of Polish people. This sparked tension, and Poland's foreign ministry will summon the Russian ambassador.

Amid these developments, Belarus revealed that Wagner's mercenaries have initiated training sessions for Belarusian special forces at a military installation near the Polish border. Additionally, Moscow has begun deploying tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus for the first time. A meeting between President Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is scheduled to take place in Russia on Sunday.

In response to the situation, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany and NATO stand ready to assist Poland in safeguarding the eastern flank of the NATO alliance. Putin claimed that various media reports suggested plans for Polish-Lithuanian military units to conduct operations in western Ukraine, an area that was once part of Poland. The Russian President insinuated that Warsaw's intentions might involve attempting to occupy the region and potentially seize parts of Belarus, although he did not provide evidence to support these claims.
